Women automatically associate midwife with natural birth - but that's not always the case. I'm sorry you had such a rough experience.Dionna @Code Name: Mamahttp://codenamemama.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4203036662354683172.post-3657697318148834122010-02-01T09:22:23.017-08:002010-02-01T09:22:23.017-08:00Oh, yeah, I forgot to say I agree with your post a...Oh, yeah, I forgot to say I agree with your post and I was just adding my 2 cents to it. I get really frustrated with all the emphasis on educating the woman, when us highly educated women are the ones who end up fighting, and then the ones who end up traumatized. I think we need to educate the providers, and when women are given true informed consent, they will then start making healthy choices for themselves and their babies. They can't do that when they aren't given the opportunity, or are forced when they exercise their legal rights to refuse.Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14095998894440122746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4203036662354683172.post-70880140567522790712010-01-31T20:10:44.786-08:002010-01-31T20:10:44.786-08:00Thank you Jennifer for adding your comments. Its exactly what you are saying that I'm trying to highlight with this post.

I also agree that if proper informed consent, with all its requirements for stating the risks, benefits and alternatives to the intervention, that few women would choose them. As many of the women blogging about birth have experienced, this type of conversation does not happen. And to those who don't believe the sort of tactics used to get women to cooperate, one can read myobsaidwhat.com.Jennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09693855868835555292noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4203036662354683172.post-27296817291824509512010-01-31T08:12:46.088-08:002010-01-31T08:12:46.088-08:00I really dislike how this videos portrays interven...I really dislike how this videos portrays interventions in hospitals. As if it is something that women are able to easily choose or refuse, and all they have to do is make the right choice and they will be respected in their decisions. That is not reality at all. This is not the way interventions are presented to women. I think that if women were offered true informed consent, they wouldn't be "choosing" these interventions. But, that is not what is happening. Women are not given informed consent, and they are manipulated, coerced, and forced into interventions that they otherwise would not have chosen. It's a bit dishonest to show women these videos and give them the impression that what interventions they get are totally in their control. That is just not how it is, and they are setting women up to have to fight. And when you go in fighting, you come out with PTSD...Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14095998894440122746noreply@blogger.com
