As a breastfeeding mother, I have been, some would say, assertive about breastfeeding my children wherever I am. I love seeing other mothers comfortably nursing their children in public. I even had the honor of working at a preschool where mothers would breastfeed their toddlers as I was giving circle time.
But this picture, I think, takes the cake for breastfeeding in public:
This is a picture I took of a woman breastfeeding her infant dressed in a shark bunting costume while trick-or-treating at a shopping center in Seattle.
Get it?
Nurse Shark?
I couldn't help but think it was awesome. The woman (I wish she was my friend) gave me permission to take her picture and probably was thinking, "Who is this crazy woman who thinks this is so cool?"
That would be me and probably a few thousand mamas who are passionate about a mother's and baby's right to continue their breastfeeding relationship in public. Its for this reason that I'm participating in Code Name: Mama's and Baby Dust Diaries Nursing in Public Blog Carnival.

We have a Halloween costume for a 1 year old that is a bumblebee. When this next baby has its second Halloween, I'm totally making a shirt with flowers over the breasts and nursing my little bumblebee!

I love it!!! Now I want to find a nurse shark costume for our 1st Halloween!!!
I don't have a NIP halloween picture, but I incorporated babywearing...I made a pouch and matching little hoods for me and baby, and we were kangaroos. So when we nursed it fit right in I suppose...
This year my kiddo will be walking before halloween (his birthday is early November, and he's already trying to walk) so I don't know if i'll be able to pull of the pouch idea again...if I do though, I'm planning a koala. There are lots of marsupials!
You all are so creative! And I adore the nurse shark, and the mama's happy smile. Let's see, I've breastfed Superman and a fire fighter and a pirate. I didn't think to get any pictures of that in action, though — missed opportunities, there!
I've nursed pumpkins, chickens, a blueberry faerie, a monkey, more chickens (those costumes have gotten a lot of use),...
I nursed a purple butterfly, but yours is too cute!

Dionna, that would be awesome! Can't wait to see it! I'm in the same boat as Lauren, I don't have pictures of my breastfeeding a 10 month old Chewbacca, a druid and a 2010 graduate.
Tina, I totally looked for the same costume for my little girl. I couldn't find it and I was so sad. Turns out she was too mobile for a bunting by then anyway. It was not okay for her to pass over babyhood that quick, she was only 5 months old!
